Benelux Enterprise Awards 2025

Aug22136 23. Best Innovation Exhibitions & Trade Venue 2025 – Luxembourg The result of a national initiative shared between the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defense, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, the Luxembourg Pavilion was designed to represent the country at Expo 2025 in Osaka, an event that is currently taking place. Built around the theme Doki Doki - The Luxembourg Heartbeat, the aim of this project is to highlight Luxembourg as the open, innovative, and sustainable country that it is – one that fosters connections and solutions with a focus on the future. Daniel Sahr, the man at the helm of the initiative, caught up with us for more. Over 184 days (from April 13th to October 13th), Expo 2025 is playing host to countries from around over the world, all of which are reflecting a theme that focuses on designing the future of our society. Dozens of countries have pavilions at the event, showcasing the best of what their nation has to offer when it comes to building tomorrow’s brighter future. Luxembourg is one of the participants to have embodied this motif perfectly, with its pavilion named after the Japanese word for the sound of a heart beating with excitement. Built around the principles of circularity by Luxembourg-based architectural firm STDM, the commitment the Luxembourg Pavillion has to showcasing the benefits of the circular economy model can be seen through its own construction, as it has been designed to be disassembled in as sustainable and straightforward a manner as possible. For instance, not only were materials reduced during the design and build, but the components that have ended up in the final project can be reused or recycled with ease once the event ends. “Designed for disassembly and reuse, our pavilion embodies Luxembourg’s leadership in circular economy innovation, setting a new standard for sustainable event design in the process.” For these 184 days (of which 70 or so are left at time of writing), the aim of this initiative is to present Luxembourg’s identity, values, and vision, all through a pavilion built around the country’s own cornerstones of sustainability, multiculturalism, and responsible innovation. Those who are lucky enough to visit will be rewarded with an immersive experience that centres on sustainable architecture and storytelling, as well as a showcase of the country’s environment and the lifestyles of its people using digital technology. Offering everyone, from families and students through to business professionals, a one-of-a-kind opportunity to step into some of Luxembourg’s most historic and beautiful spaces, all from the other side of the world thanks to the state-of-theart equipment in this pavilion, the venue reflects a country at the top of its game. Daniel explained: “As part of a forwardthinking Benelux presence at Expo 2025, Luxembourg offers more than just a national showcase, it’s a living experience inviting visitors to our beautiful country.” The cherry on top – quite literally – is that visitors can enjoy an authentic taste of the country’s food, at the “Häffchen”, the Luxembourg Pavillion’s foodcourt. Demonstrating the nation’s culinary prowess and showcasing some its magnificent local wines, the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Luxembourg is handling the gastronomic offerings at this pavilion, and the menu that it has developed even adds a Japanese twist to some national specialities, paying tribute to the host of Expo 2025. Reflecting on the remarkable impact Luxembourg’s innovation hub has had at this event in Osaka, Daniel commented: “At Expo 2025, the Luxembourg Pavilion stands at the forefront of a global shift – where architecture, sustainability, and immersive storytelling converge. From our interactive technologies to our multisensory exhibitions, every element of our pavilion and innovative presence invites visitors into a story of resilience, openness, and future-ready thinking – all underpinned by an eco-conscious design.” With the Luxembourg Pavillion having constructed an integrated narrative that blends intelligent, purpose-built architecture with an inclusive atmosphere and authentic collaboration between sectors across the country it represents, this is a venue fitting of being recognised as the Best Innovation Exhibitions & Trade Venue 2025 – Luxembourg in this programme. Having found such success with this initiative, Luxembourg’s presence at World Expos will continue to grow, whilst reflecting its long-term commitments.
