26. EU Business News- Benelux Enterprise Awards 2025 Jun25244 Board games are on the rise, and with them board game conventions. More and more events are emerging around the world, as visitors are eager to try out new games. MoxCon is the largest board game convention in the North Holland province, striving to provide a platform for game enthusiasts and creators to meet, explore new games, and immerse themselves in the wonderful world of tabletop gaming. As the convention is recognised in the Benelux Enterprise Awards 2025, we spoke with Organiser Michel de Haas for more. The largest board game convention in the North Holland province, MoxCon was established with the mission of providing a platform for game enthusiasts and creators to meet, explore new games, and immerse themselves in the world of tabletop gaming. The convention is held in the Grote Sint Laurenskerk – the largest church in North Holland – in Alkmaar, an impressing setting that provides a special atmosphere that allows visitors to enjoy playing board games, card games, and collectible games. “MoxCon stands out due to its unique location and the accessible, welcoming environment it offers,” Michel told us. “Despite the large size of the church, the venue maintains a cosy and homely feel, which creates a relaxed and enjoyable experienced for visitors. This distinctive ambiance, combined with our commitment to inclusivity, makes MoxCon the ideal choice for game enthusiasts looking for both a vibrant and comfortable environment to enjoy their passion.” Organising a successful board game convention is no easy feat, and many organisers tend to lose sight of the bigger picture. A game day is a world away from a full-scale convention, and simply arranging tables and chairs is not enough. This understanding is what allows MoxCon to lead the charge in board game conventions, offering a complete experience that allows visitors to meet the game creators, play the games, and even purchase them afterwards. MoxCon is more than a hall filled with gaming tables – it is an engaging experience in itself. It also features a wide variety of publishers, both large and small, who showcase their latest games to the public, working with various vendors to offer a comprehensive convention experience. By offering this platform for game publishers, the convention can contribute significantly to advancing the growth and promotion of new games – ensuring that MoxCon appeals to both industry professionals and attendees looking to discover new titles. This exceptional convention is delivered by a reliable team of volunteers, whose internal culture is built upon a foundation of teamwork, passion, and dedication. These volunteers are the heart of what makes MoxCon a success, their hard work and commitment ensuring that each edition runs smoothly and visitors are provided with the best possible experience. When looking for new talent to join the team, MoxCon seeks individuals who possess passion for board games and a strong sense of hospitality. To ensure that the team are equipped to provide exceptional services, the organising team focuses on creating a supportive and collaborative internal environment. Training and preparation are key in this field, especially for new volunteers, so they understand the importance of delivering a personal and immersive experience to each guest. The volunteer team are encouraged and trained to engage directly with visitors to ensure that they feel welcomed and informed, maintaining the warm, and immersive atmosphere for which MoxCon is renowned. “We are incredibly proud of our volunteers, who work tirelessly at every edition to make MoxCon a success,” shared Michel. “Their dedication ensures that visitors keep coming back and, as a result, we have experienced significant growth over the five editions. We have grown to become the largest board game convention in North Holland.” Since MoxCon’s inception in 2019, the event has experienced explosive growth; the convention has evolved from welcoming 450 visitors during its first edition to attracting more than 1,5000 attendees during its fifth anniversary in 2024. As a result of this rapid growth, the team are actively exploring the possibility of expanding MoxCon to a full weekend event. Currently, the convention takes place on Sundays, but the team eagerly anticipate the addition of Saturdays in the near future. What’s more, MoxCon will be hosting the second edition of PookMox in 2026, a convention dedicated to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). “This event will focus entirely on Pokémon TCG, and we look forward to offering fans another immersive experience,” Michel added. “The remainder of 2025 and beyond will be focused on expanding these initiatives and continuing to create unforgettable experiences for our attendees.” Contact: Michel de Haas Company: MoxCon Web Address: www.moxcon.nl Board Game Convention of the Year 2025
