European CEO of the Year Awards 2025

Jul22493 45. The small Swiss town of Olten is home to eqe AG, an engineering services company specialising in implementing projects across both nuclear power plants and industrial plant construction. Committed to making energy safer, the professional team here – comprising welders, pipefitters, and those representing other specialist trades – collaborate with their clients to execute bespoke, goal-oriented projects. CEO Alexander Menges is the person tying this together, and we caught up with him on the back of his recognition in this programme to find out more about eqe. Since 2012, eqe has stood side by side with those in search of a partner covering every aspect of secure energy. Offering services ranging from in-house manufacturing and assembly to planning, project management, and quality assurance, the company’s areas of expertise span industrial and plant engineering through to steel construction, 3D surveying, reengineering, and other such engineeringrelated solutions. Thus, be it for a complete project or a sub-project, the team here have the tools to implement it efficiently. “Our mission is to be a competent and reliable partner to our clients – working with them as equals to successfully deliver complex projects from a technical, qualitative, and economic perspective.” A passion for safe energy defines eqe’s approach to projects, and regardless of whether it is working with nuclear technology or carrying out pipeline calculations, the company blends modern tools with powerful and diverse software and hardware solutions to cover a wide range of use cases. The team are able to provide references from a number of technical fields on request – all a prospective client must do is reach out to one of eqe’s contact persons, including Alexander Menges, the company’s founder and CEO. Having dreamt of becoming self-employed from a young age, Alexander’s drive to bring his own ideas to life and solve some of the key challenges impacting our planet led him to start eqe at the age of 28. Now, 13 years later, Alexander is proud to be at the helm of a growing business that continues to pioneer and satisfy the needs of clients – delivering innovative solutions in plant engineering and giving its all to every project. With Alexander at the helm, eqe quickly carved out a name for itself by focusing on customer-oriented change, but the development of a new corporate strategy four years ago, alongside the renowned Dr Urs Frey, saw eqe pivot slightly to focus on structural strengthening from within. Alexander added: “This includes improving and refining internal processes and workflows – and creating them where necessary.” It is thanks to this strategy that eqe today has a strong, sustainable foundation, and with this current strategy set to come to an end later this year, Alexander and co. are already well underway on the next iteration, which involves expanding the business to cover new areas such as more conventional powerplant technology and personnel leasing. These initiatives will help to support both the company and its clients as they navigate the significant transformations the industry is currently going through. These shifts ignited a spark in eqe, which has recently created another of its new, innovative products to help clients thrive in a world of changing requirements and technologies. The ASMAV valve, as it is called, has been designed to boost client safety margins significantly, protecting people, facilities, and the wider environment in the process. It does this by stopping liquid and gas flow from an all-in-one system that can be closed by system pressure or by introducing temperature, guaranteeing improved plant safety. Remarkably, eqe is only just beginning, and another new project is in the pipeline that the team here are equally as excited about. Alexander told us: “At this point, we can only reveal this much: we’re working on a new type of drive system that is lightweight, compact, and powerful.” More details will be shared when the patent is secured. Outside of the project space, a big part of how eqe is nurturing long-term success is by distributing responsibility across multiple shoulders. Thus, Alexander is continuing to hone the overall structure of the organisation, empowering employees to carry out their roles independently and with full competence. Luckily, eqe’s team are quick to embrace and support this evolution, making their CEO incredibly proud. Finally, reflecting on his win, Alexander commented: “Thank you to EU Business News for the award. I’m honoured to accept this recognition. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to my employees and cooperation partners for their dedication and commitment – you’ve made this achievement possible. Thank you all!” Contact: Menges Alexander Company: eqe AG Web Address: https://eqe.ch/ Best Engineering Services CEO 2025 (Switzerland): Alexander Menges
