The company was built around the idea that people perform best when they understand who they are, what drives them, and how they naturally contribute. From this foundation it has served more than 20,000 people over 20+ years, something Carita told us more about when we caught up with her following this recognition in the European CEO of the Year Awards 2026. Specialising in leadership and team development, Carita takes leaders and teams on a journey to rediscover their strengths, and teaches them how to make better use of the strengths around them. Through Keys2Balance, Carita has deployed her practical leadership development to leaders, managers, and employees across hundreds of industries and cultures, even working with Finnish multinational corporations like Nokia, Wärtsilä, and KONE. Regardless of if it is working with a global organisation or an SME, Keys2Balance leverages the same methodology across its team and leadership training, which covers nine practical keys spanning communication, motivation, and wellbeing. These help uncover the elements resulting in workplace friction, like different ways of thinking and communicating, misunderstood motivations, untapped strengths, and stress and energy being directed towards the wrong things. Its signature Friction to Flow programme best encapsulates this. Behind this and all of the practical leadership development Keys2Balance delivers are its four core values: authenticity, compassion, positivity, and respect. Discussing their importance, Carita told us: “They shape how we work with people: helping them lead as themselves, see possibilities even in difficult situations and respect that there is rarely only one right way to think or contribute.” Ultimately, this is what Keys2Balance has always been about. Cartia’s journey to this point, being the CEO and sole employee of an international leadership training organisation, has been far from straightforward. Her career actually began in marketing and business development, with this chapter of her life culminating in a role as the head of marketing for Fazer Amica. In 2002, Carita made the leap to entrepreneurship through Keys2Balance, taking the opportunity to explore something she felt was often missed in traditional leadership development: a greater understanding of oneself. Since starting this journey, the more than 20,000 people she has had the pleasure of working with have taught Carita the greatest leadership lessons, and this has fed into how she views her position. Carita explained: “For many years, I saw myself primarily as a trainer, coach, and expert who also happened to run a company. More recently, I have made a conscious shift to think and act as a CEO, building something that can grow beyond my own delivery by certifying trainers.” This is fuelling the next stage of business growth. For Carita, the opportunity now is to make the experience she provides scalable, creating better workplaces by equipping other professionals with practical tools they can use with their own leaders and teams. Plans are in place to develop a certification and licensing model, with its programmes and materials set to be refined for use across different cultures and business landscapes worldwide. At the same time, the From Friction to Flow programme will be utilised to give organisations a fast, practical way to experience this methodology. “This is not growth for growth’s sake. The goal is to scale our impact without losing what made Keys2Balance valuable in the first place: human connection, selfawareness, and sustainable change.” Reflecting on her expert-led company, Carita recognises that, over time, a founder can become both the greatest asset and the greatest limitation an organisation has. Keys2Balance has been built around her experience, relationships, and methodology, so as she pursues certification and international partnerships, Carita is having to look at it with fresh eyes, assessing what is essential, what can be simplified, and what another professional would need to have the same kind of impact that she has over the last 24 years and counting.
