Irish Enterprise Awards 2023

34. Jan23305 Established in 1988, P & G Cards Ltd is a family business to the core. A manufacturer and supplier of greeting cards, gift wrap, and seasonal gifts, the company was established by husband and wife team, Gerry and Pauline Naughton. Today the couple’s daughters, Michelle Daly and Aishling Naughton, take care of the day-to-day running of P & G Cards. We take a peek at the business with Michelle. Based in County Roscommon, in central Ireland, P & G Cards has been helping its clients ‘say it with a card’ for 35 years. Despite employing around 60 people, the heart of the business is still the kitchen table in Pauline and Gerry’s house, where all the big decisions are made. Design is central to operations at P & G Cards. The company’s dedicated design team makes new and beautiful designs to help celebrate moments that matter. So too is customer service with a professional and dedicated sales team on hand to help and advise. P & G Card’s 16,000-square-foot premises is strategically placed for distribution throughout Ireland and beyond. And the company takes care of everything from the idea to the merchandising. Using FSC-accredited card to manufacture its products, P & G Cards is playing its part in preserving the environment for generations to come. Best Greetings Card Manufacturer 2023 As well as selling to retail and grocery stores in Ireland, such as Dunnes Stores, Supervalu, Centra, and Aldi, P & G Cards is also popular abroad. The company supplies large chains and independent retailers in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Malta, South Africa, and Australia. Michelle says, “I started to take an interest in the business from the age of about 8. It was fascinating to me to watch my mum evolve and grow into a business leader. I wanted to be like her. When I officially joined the business, I said I wanted to get that big black chair. That’s the one my mother was occupying at the time.” Since taking over operations, Michelle and Aishling have embraced evolving technology to respond to demand in the most efficient way. The company differentiates itself from the competition by its use of data analytics. Michelle explains, "Card purchasing is subjective. We can show ranges that we create to 5 different people and get 5 different answers as to whether they like them or not. That means we have to rely on our data analytics to understand what our customers want and what they are most likely to sell. We have a bespoke ERP system that collates all that information.” The P & G Cards team pay regular visits to stores that display its products. Based on the available data, the team decides what to display in each store. This new information is then synced to the ERP system each evening advising the manufacturing teams which items to print. Orders are picked, packed and despatched to arrive at their destination within 3 days or less. Awarded AIBF Female Entrepreneur Of The Year 2022 for her outstanding contribution to enterprise in Ireland, Michelle took her place in the AIBF Register of Irish Business Excellence (TRIBE). On receiving this award she says, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team, our customers and suppliers and all those that continue to support us.” The family spirit lives on through every move that P & G Cards makes, and we’re proud to celebrate its innovative approach to gift giving and customer satisfaction.
