German Business Awards 2022

52 EU BUSINESS NEWS / German Business Awards 2022 Sep22623 Innoproc GmbH is an innovator. It is at the heart of Germany’s construction and building procurement industry, shaping the market through its creative and contemporary take on digitalisation and customer service. Innoproc GmbH’s origins came in the form of a classic purchasing consultancy; however, it quickly delved into the topics of category management, purchasing controlling, purchasing processes, purchasing systems, and organisation. The company boasts a team of 58 purchasing experts, and it supports a range of clients, with many of them coming from medium-sized companies. Indeed, Innoproc aids its clients through their concerns surrounding their investment projects as a strategic and operative procurement service provider for building trades, plant and machinery, as well as contract and claims management, and place technical specialists in permanent positions and freelancers to bridge vacancies. Whilst the company has evolved greatly over time, its values have never changed. Innoproc’s Founder, Thorsten Gareis, explains, ‘we give people the space they need in their jobs. Among other things, this includes a culture of mistakes. I have made many mistakes and learned from them. Nobody has to be afraid of doing something wrong, but you should definitely learn from it. The prerequisite for this is a climate of trust. This also makes challenging projects, such as the procurement for a biotechnological research building in times of uncertain supply chains, successful.’ Built upon these values is Innoproc’s unique selling point, which it largely cites as the fact that it is a full-service procurement provider. It always works in close conjunction with the respective CapEx purchasing lead, the sub-project managers, and the project management process. Moreover, at the customer’s request, the company is equipped to provide support from as early as the preparation of a feasibility study with a focus on strategic purchasinf issues. Innoproc also carries out the source-to-contract process. This means that it organises the tender documents for all services areas, obtains offers, checks and evaluates such offers, and draws up a price comparison list. Thorsten adds, ‘we also have a great deal of experience as a benchmarker of construction offers that are supposedly ready for signature. In more than 180 projects, we have nevertheless been able to save our clients billions in costs for the same quality, despite all reservations, from different sectors.’ Within Innocproc’s own sector, however, there are dozens of developments taking place. The digitalisation of construction processes is a challenge for many businesses as the uncertainty surrounding implementation is a significant issue. Yet Innoproc believes that in order to remain competitive in both the long and short-term, it has to face this evolution head on. The digital construction diary therefore supplies an abundance of benefits: it allows for the digital recording of construction site documentation, personnel and equipment used, working hours, quality information, work carried out, and notes on building materials supplied as well as pictures. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is also becoming more prevalent within the industry. Quite simply, BIM is a method that serves to digitise and streamline the planning of various construction projects, and all relevant information is managed which leads to a more efficient and cost-effective construction process. It also highlights important information such as costs, deadlines, and material specifications, with the overall goals of BIM being to improve quality and functionality, as well as adherence to the schedule and budget. Such changes are overseen by Innoproc’s team, who maintain a family-like culture with influences from the market. Thorsten tells us, ‘family-like culture is sometimes referred to as clan culture and is about building meaningful relationships, valuing cooperation and shaping the future together. Remember the expression: "We are all in the same boat". The family-like culture supports leaders who are team builders and mentors, seeking to strengthen relationships and develop skills to achieve a successful business outcome.’ Of course, there is also a focus on upskilling and loyalty to clients. The future promises great success for Innoproc; there are several plans and projects that are in the works. ‘In 2023, we will award a contract volume of €450 million for construction services and carry out another 12 benchmarks in construction projects. Especially because of the high construction costs and rising construction interest rates, our benchmarks are of great importance for the business development of our clients in the coming years,’ Thorsten concludes.
