Irish Enterprise Awards 2023

36. Best Event Video Production Company – Dublin Established in 2007, Ballywire Media produces broadcast-quality video for clients in Ireland and abroad. Responding to the demands of video-hungry platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, the company helps clients create TV-style news reports and broadcasts for their websites and social channels. Founder and CEO, Paul Collins, is a former duty editor with Ireland’s national commercial radio station, Today FM. We chat with Paul to find out more. Tipperary native, Paul Collins, has a long history of radio broadcasting. A graduate of the University of Limerick, Paul was a founding member of Tipperary Mid-West Radio before going on to work at Waterford Local Radio and Today FM. But, when Paul noticed the growing demand for video, the radio buff changed channels. Being ahead of the curve, Ballywire Media gained some prestigious clients early on. Paul tells us, “It was apparent that video was becoming a really important communication channel. So we set out with the aim of enabling our partners to create journalism-backed video content. We have the distinction of publishing the first ever Irish editorial video content on the websites of Independent. ie, Irishtimes.com, Irishexaminer.com, and The Gaelic Athletic Association (gaa.ie).” Since then, with the evolution of the internet, Ballywire Media has developed live streaming and hybrid event capabilities. The company takes care of everything from concept through motion graphic design to the delivery of compelling content to a globally recognised broadcast standard. Paul says, “With the explosion of demand for live streaming, every great event begins with the question: ‘What are we going to broadcast in the room and online?’ That’s where we come in! Our mission is to deliver content that would sit comfortably on any TV channel. Preparation is key!” Former broadcasters on national and international TV and radio, the team at Ballywire Media differentiates itself from the competition by way of its vast industry experience. And, motivated to pass on its knowledge to generations to come, the company works with educational institutions to help upskill students and graduates. Talking about the team, Paul says, “It’s the secret of our success. We recognise the skills that each team member has and regard them as equally valuable. Without the team, we’d never have been able to scale properly. It’s impossible to do everything yourself. I’d say my colleagues are way more talented than I am. They’re experts in diverse areas from shooting video to designing motion graphics. Our achievements are built upon one thing – trust. The clients trust us to deliver compelling content and meet their deadlines. Our team members trust each other and believe in each person’s unique talent to deliver great work.” In the world of video, failure is not an option, especially when it comes to capturing real-time content. And so the team at Ballywire Media has developed tried and trusted methods of delivering firstclass client and viewer experiences. The demand for video viewed on phone screens has exploded. With long-established video capture methods formatted for TV and widescreen, this has presented some challenges for video professionals. In response, Ballywire Media has developed techniques that enable dual-purpose capture. This allows clients to use content across all channels and reach even larger audiences. In 2023, Ballywire Media plans to launch its first-ever graphic novel featuring the story of Ireland’s legendary queen - Maeve of Connacht. Paul explains, “At the summit of Knocknarea mountain in Sligo is a cairn believed to be the final resting place of Irish warrior Queen Maeve. She ruled the west of Ireland in Roman times. During the pandemic, I discovered that the first ever colour depiction of Maeve was commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt in 1907. “Millions of Irish fled the famine bringing their ancient stories to America. When President Roosevelt heard the stories, he commissioned a painting of her for an article he was writing about Ireland’s mythological past. As well as the graphic novel, a multimedia stage show is in the works. It’s generated great interest in the US so it should be an interesting year!” Contact: Paul Collins Company: Ballywire Media Web Address: www.ballywiremedia.com Jan23287
