4 EU BUSINESS NEWS / Q2 2022 NEWS , Guide to Help Displaced Ukrainians in France Created with Imperial College Business School ImperialCollegeBusinessSchoolhashelped developaguide tosupport community leaders in France lookafterdisplacedpeople fromUkraine. A team of students, faculty and staff from Imperial College Business School have been working with the French charity Solidarité Ukraine to create a playbook so that other communities can replicate what a community in Saint-Omer, northern France, has achieved since early March in resettling Ukrainians currently displaced by the war. The charity is led by Imperial College Business School Advisory Board and Imperial Council member Mary Meaney who has been at the forefront of efforts to support displaced Ukrainians in Saint-Omer, around 40 miles from Lille. Mary has worked with the Imperial team to create the guide and lead a local effort that includes hundreds of volunteers, while also providing shelter for scores of displaced Ukrainian people at her home in France, including 11 orphaned children. The toolkit – entitled Solidarity Ukraine: AGuide to Welcoming Ukrainian Displaced People – provides sound and practical advice on how community leaders can best manage the arrival and resettlement of Ukrainian people. Holistic support Imperial College London President Professor Alice Gast said: “As part of our response to the crisis in Ukraine, students and staff at the Business School have worked hard and quickly with Solidarité Ukraine to put together this commendable guide. “It is a great piece of work and sets out the best approach for a community to take to coordinate integrated, holistic support for Ukrainian displaced people, and also contains key documents in French and Ukrainian.” Celia Moore, Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Imperial College Business School, worked on the guide with Mary Meaney, along with a team of Imperial students including Marina Moncayola Lobato, Sneha Kuruvilla, Karina Penska and Karolina Kaczmarek. She said: “Mary’s leadership and dedication throughout this crisis has been inspiring, and I applaud her for spearheading the creation of this important guide. I worked alongside three incredible Ukrainian students from the Business School to codify and organise what the group in Saint-Omer has learned about how to come together to support, feed, clothe, house, employ, educate, and provide health care for the influx of Ukranians fleeing the country. My role was secondary to Mary and the students’ star performances, and deserve absolute kudos for their tireless efforts.” Mary Meaney said: “As leader of the Solidarité Ukraine initiative, I am deeply grateful to Celia, Marina and the entire team from Imperial for their incredible work. “So far, our community in northern France has welcomed over 250 Ukrainian women and children, and this guide will be invaluable as we scale up our support to other Ukrainians in other communities across France. As a member of Imperial College Council and also Imperial College Business School's Advisory Board, I am so proud of Imperial's contribution in this crisis.” About the guide The guide offers a range of training materials for those interested in mobilising their communities to support Ukrainian women and children. Key areas covered include the organisation of transport of displaced Ukrainian people and preparing the French host families for their arrival. It also contains details of how to match and host Ukrainian families and support people who are suffering from trauma, and looks at the practicalities of making sure refugees are provided with essentials, such as clean clothing, toothbrushes, shampoo, clothes, baby equipment, diapers as well as access to computers to connect with their families and friends. Since the beginning of March, Solidarité Ukraine has worked with the community of Saint-Omer to welcome hundreds of Ukrainian women and children, and has found solutions to house, feed, clothe and care for them all. All the Ukrainian primary and secondary school children who arrived in March are now in French schools and teenagers and adults are attending French classes offered in person four days a week, with additional online classes. Upon arrival, every Ukrainian has had a comprehensive medical check-up, including status check on vaccinations, chronic conditions and psychological state, and has had access to medical care. The team in Saint-Omer also has 60 Russian and Ukrainianspeaking psychologists providing mental health support. Other efforts included the submission of all French documents for Ukrainian families to receive their protected status and a new “bus stop” in front of the Ukrainian welcome centre with free transport for all Ukrainians. The news follows the launch of new funds to support refugees and asylum seekers at Imperial. Mary Meaney, along with other members of Imperial’s governing Council and senior staff, were among the first to pledge their support, which currently stands at close to £250,000 of donations and Imperial funding.
EU BUSINESS NEWS / Q2 2022 5 NEWS , May 7th 2022marks the six-month countdown to COP27 andmass-participation relay organisers TheWorld Relay are proud to announce Running Out of Time, a 7,200km, 38-day, non-stop relay fromGlasgow, Scotland (COP26 host) to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt (COP27 host) in the name of climate action, inviting runners to register to take part and pass the baton. Broken down into 10km stages, it will be the longest non-stop relay ever attempted with runners, cyclists and sailors working together to pass a baton containing a powerful climate message from young people to the decision makers at COP27. The impact of climate change on our planet will be felt most by our youth and future generations. Their collective voice needs to be heard. The aim is to deliver their message with so much support that it is impossible to ignore. From the opening ceremony in COP26 host city Glasgow on September 30th 2022 – where the message will be sealed in the baton - the relay will journey through 18 countries - UK (Scotland, Wales, England), France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Egypt - arriving to Sharm el-Sheikh on November 6th 2022 in time for COP27 which will take place from 7th-18th November 2022. Danny Bent, Running Out of Time’s Relay Director, runner and Guinness World Record holder says “We are so super proud to have this opportunity to amplify the voice of our youth and to help raise awareness of the climate crisis. We want to show what can be achieved if we all work together - a symbol to today’s decision makers who hold the key to a unified solution.” Along the extraordinary route, the baton will cross seas, mountain ranges, glaciers, and deserts and visit schools, atrisk locations and climate change projects meeting scientists, engineers and designers at the forefront of the green revolution to better understand what is happening to our planet and to inspire local climate action. Running Out of Time will also be fundraising for the Foundation for Environmental Education’s Global Forest Fund and Carbon Copy. Ric Casale, Co Founder, Carbon Copy says “Carbon Copy is delighted to team up with One Run for this extraordinary event. The relay is so symbolic of the ambition and collaboration we wish to see at COP27, and that we already see in the people working together locally to address the biodiversity and climate crises. This relay will also be a common thread that links thousands of inspiring climate action stories, showcasing leadership at all levels and encouraging more people to join in by doing something similar. Collective local climate action is having an impact globally, and we look forward to taking these stories to COP27 and sharing them with governments from around the world.” During the relay up to a million pupils from around the world will be brought together for a Global Schools Day - an exciting virtual programme that champions climate change solutions while empowering young people to create an environmentally conscious world through experiential, project-based learning. Lesley Jones, President, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) says “At a time where climate change is an increasingly urgent cross-cutting issue, FEE has chosen to prioritise climate action as part of its ten-year strategy, GAIA 20:30. There are many pathways to mitigating the impacts of climate change, and we believe that education and collaboration play crucial roles in driving climate action to overcome the challenges facing our planet. It has to be education that shows and guides us to positive solutions. The Running Out Of Time relay will not only connect those people along the route from Glasgow to Sharm el-Sheikh, but bring us all together to address a problem on a global scale. We are hopeful and excited for the relay baton to become a rallying point and a call for quality climate change education around the world.” People around the world who are unable to run a stage on the physical route won’t miss out. They’re invited to pass the baton during a Global Virtual Relay which is expected to attract tens of thousands of runners in a demonstration of togetherness and radical inclusivity in the name of climate action. The general public can register to take part and pass the baton from May 7th via www.running-out-of-time.com and will be invited to select their chosen 10km stage in June. ‘Running Out of Time’ theWorld’s Longest Non-Stop Relay Announced in the Name of Climate Action

8 EU BUSINESS NEWS / Q2 2022 , Best International PR Agency 2021 Developed to support clients in promoting, expanding, and establishing their brand's reputation, Simon&Co was launched with the mission to create tailor-made strategies and client-orientated consultancy to help its customer's business development at any stage. Established as the Best International PR Agency, Simon&Co is highly regarded and recognised for its vast experience with start-ups, SME's andmultinational corporations and is active in the B2B and B2C sectors and NGOs and associations. Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, Simon&Co is renowned for its excellence in PR. The agency believes firmly in building rewarding relationships with key opinion leaders, core customers and partners – developing tailor-made strategies to make the most out of its clients to broaden awareness and stimulate engagement. The agency offers several services from strategic counsel, reputation management, external and internal communication strategies, crisis communication, launches, media relations, public affairs, and influencer marketing. Additionally, with these services, Simon&Co often work in partnership with national and international professional networks from appropriate sectors to deliver the finest integrated services for its clients' bespoke strategy. Since the company's establishment, the agency's core values, principles and founding ethics have not changed. In fact, they have remained an integral role in the launch of Simon&Co. Director and Founder Virginie Simon lead on from this point, stating, "I think that because I always remained true to myself, advising clients for their own well-being and not my wallet has let me get their trust. When I say that I have always been true to myself, I mean that I am not afraid of saying 'no' when I don't believe in what the client would like to implement, or I am not afraid of proposing strategies/ actions that the client has not even thought about." With over 13 years of proven experience in PR and even more so in the field of Dec21191 communication, Virginie has been able to differentiate herself from other agencies and, because of this, has been able to grow Simon&Co into a genuinely remarkable PR firm. To ensure that the company can flourish adequately and provide continuous excellence, Simon&Co carefully surrounds itself with the right people. Thus, Virginie expands on this, explaining the importance of her staff, stating, "My staff supports me daily, and I wouldn't be here, growing without them. They all come from different fields and have other types of expertise. One of my junior consultants, for instance, was an entrepreneur with a great marketing approach. The other is amazing in creating content and storytelling. A great sense of humour is also a huge requirement at Simon&Co as we like our jokes and a relaxed environment. This is essential when dealing with tough projects such as crisis management or when the topic is complex." For Simon&Co, the industry has gone through several changes and trends over the past few years, and for the agency, one of the most significant issues has been that companies are reducing their costs. To combat these challenges, Simon&Co has taken it upon itself to propose additional coaching and workshops to make the most of their staff. Additionally, another change in the industry has been how clients work. Virginie explains this progression in detail, stating, "They need budgets and proposals very quickly and then come back to you a few months later with another strategy in mind, meaning that you work on another proposal that has to be implemented right away. So the deadlines are tighter than before." As an entrepreneur, Virginie was weary of the effects of Covid-19 on the business, the industry, and her clients. Therefore, she tried to reduce the spending to support as many clients as possible before hiring members. "It was strange, as after the world was paralysed, then everything started again like crazy. I haven't stopped since then and have grown during that time. I explain this with the fact that I am well known for being a crisis communication specialist, having managed the most important redundancy Geneva has ever experienced. Companies also started to valorise more the power of a good reputation to stand out of the crowd." For now, Simon&Co is working on several diverse workshops for companies. However, as the world is beginning to open up again, clients have realised they have missed the humanised and personalised side of the agency's work efforts. Now, Simon&Co is accompanying new clients, getting prepared for greater launches, communications, development plans, and counselling to come forward in the new year. Keeping up with surging expectations of the industry and creating continuous success for its clients, it is no wonder that Simon&Co has been regarded as the Best International PR Firm of the year. EU BUSINESS NEWS / Q2 2022 13 , Feb22390 volutionary technology is purely the product of large firms, pushing the boundaries. It also comes from small teams wanting to find simple solutions. sayTEC AG started with one person’s idea, Yakup Saygin, and grew from there. Yakup was recognised for his efforts in EU Business News’ German CEO Excellence Awards 2022, where he was named IT Infrastructure Security CEO of the Year 2022: Yakup Saygin. We thought it time to take a closer look in order to discover more. Great ideas are hard to come by, and in Germany this is especially true. Everyone wants the next big thing, but they want it to have been tried and tested for the last twenty years. This simply isn’t possible in the word of security. With security concerns constantly evolving, the ways in which we protect people must too. sayTEC AG has developed two revolutionary technologies that ensure internal and external network security, maximum access protection and availability of data, applications and systems. sayFUSE and sayTRUST are truly impressive products, offering a comprehensive solution to most of today’s most important IT problems. Working in the fields of Network and Remote Access Security, Backup & Restore, Disaster Recovery, Highly Secure Private and Public Cloud, Ultra Converged Infrastructures, the team have been able to secure incredible success. The success of sayTEC's technologies is mainly due to the tireless efforts of Yakup Saygin. The foundation of the company is the focus on the specific needs of the IT world. The needs of the customers have inspired the team of engineers and scientists to develop unique solutions. New, increasing demands from customers, combined with many new security challenges, show that there is plenty of potential for those who are willing to develop new ideas and innovative technologies. Yakup’s team not only protects the IT infrastructure of public authorities, sites and ministries, but also of small and large companies. They ensure high performance, maximum security and scalability. The growth of the business over the years has matched demand from technology and sales partners. The team don’t simply provide solutions, however. They take the time to ensure that they are trained and certified to the highest possible standards. In this way, they are able to embrace a comprehensive security solution. Until relatively recently, much IT security has focused on human-human and humanmachine relationships. The expansion of digital transformation, AI, growing data volumes, self-learning, networked and independently communicating machines not only bring new opportunities, but increases the risks involved exponentially. To meet today's and tomorrow's requirements, new technologies are essential. The service that Yakup has always encouraged is one which doesn’t follow conventional lines, therefore. He is always looking to empower his team to break new ground. Looking forward, it’s clear that Yakup’s approach of thinking up practical ideas that benefit people working on the ground has been one of the keys to his continued success. In the future, he aims to continue working along these lines, offering the solutions that mega corporations depend upon, but would never think of for themselves. What is clear is that smaller companies are leading the way forward. In the near future, he and his team will continue to build their partner structure in order to meet enquiries, whilst expanding their security solutions to a broader audience. This will mean providing ways of protecting corporate data on mobile devices, for example. Already, the team are on the case. It's this eye for the future that keeps the team at sayTEC ahead of the curve. Their work is inspirational, offering a chance to get ahead of what is required when it comes to internet security. Yakup’s drive and ambition lies at the heart of this enterprise and is key to securing the company’s position for many years to come.
