Military leaders and industry experts from the Italian Navy, St. Andrew’s Aviation and European Defence Agency will provide the latest updates on military flight training for rotary platforms.

Military helicopters play an integral part in the sea, land and air operations of today’s military forces. It is therefore crucial to continue maximising helicopter training and development.

Speaking at SMi’s Military Flight Training 2017, military leaders and industry experts from the Italian Navy, St. Andrew’s Aviation and European Defence Agency will provide the latest updates on military flight training

Lieutenant Commander Andrea Pingitore, Experimental Test Pilot of the Italian Navy will provide the latest platform updates on the NH-90 and an overview on how flight training is currently conducted within the Italian Navy from doctrine, education, synthetic and live training. In addition, benefits of working with leading solution providers to develop the most advanced platform will be discussed.

Squadron Leader Mike Gallagher, Helicopter Tactics Instructor of European Defence Agency will bring latest updates on the inception and delivery of No1 COMAO Course. He will deliberate how to develop the ability to plan and execute complex missions in a hostile and contested environment as well as present an overview on the European Blade Exercises.

Major (Retd.) Peter Dean, Director, St. Andrew’s Aviation will explore how recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have shaped current and future helicopter training requirements. He will provide recommendations and show how to mix Live and Synthetic training to develop the most effective training exercise for helicopter pilots.

In Addition, the Major will also host an exclusive pre-conference workshop on “Military Helicopter Flight Training- A UK Perspective” on the 10th October 2017. This workshop will aim to explore the challenges facing military flying training organisations as they align more closely with Civil Aviation regulations and look to the future of training in an era of dwindling budgets and increased deployments. Participants of the workshop will receive insights on the recent transformation of UK military flying training, and explore the development of Competency Based Training in the RAF. The challenges of applied flying training in complex environments will be analysed. Delegates will also have a chance to deliberate the cost and benefits of different aircraft types and systems for flight training.

The 2-day conference will provide the latest pilot training strategies and developments from the likes of: Argentina, South Africa, France, UK RAF, Norway and Italy. There will also be a dedicated focus on synthetic and live pilot training for fast jet, fixed wings and rotary platforms.
