Best Specialty International Culture Museum 2020

The International Clogs Museum in Eelde in the Netherlands started in 1990 with the collection of the Wietzes brothers. Eiso and Egbert were the last two clogmakers in Eelde. Not only did they manufacture utility clogs, they also collected them. In 1988 the foundation ‘Klompenmuseum Gebr. Wietzes’ was established, which at the time maintained around 600 pairs of clogs. In 2002 the foundation became the owner of the complete collection that nowadays consists of more than 2,800 pairs of clogs and other footwear with a wooden sole and wooden soles from 44 countries. It is therefore the largest and most extensive collection in the world.
